Each year during the College Football Playoff National Championship, the College Football Playoff Foundation takes the time to celebrate standout teachers from across the country.
Through their partnership with the National Teacher of the Year Program, the CFP Foundation is able to host this "Championship Experience" for the State Teachers of The Year from all 50 states. CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowky told the media, “Recognizing teachers for their commitment to their students is something that needs to happen every day. We are honored to be able to recognize the very best in the profession on one of the biggest stages in sports. It sends a powerful message.”
The weekend, coined "Extra Yard for Teachers" (EYFT) was filled with special activities for the teachers. There was the EYFT Lounge filled with lesson planning workshops, massages, and giveaways, the EYFT Summit on professional development, and the Extra Yard 5K.
Perhaps the most impressive was the $1 million that went to teachers and students in the Atlanta area, donated by the Atlanta Football Host Committee. CFP showed us how easily we can magnify our impact by partnering with strong organizations committed to a common cause.
