The Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Police Memorial Fund are partnering to benefit the foundation’s “Get Behind the Vest” campaign.
Despite the recent violence surrounding police officers, here’s an example of a positive story of partnership. Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford is a part of an advertising campaign between the Chicago Police Memorial Fund and the Chicago Blackhawks. Their goal is to raise $4 million to buy 8,000 new bulletproof vests for officers. Officers are always given a new vest when they join the force, but these vests need to be replaced every five years due to deterioration. The replacements come out of the pockets of the officers, yet they are extremely expensive. The team will contribute $5,000 to the fund and will challenge other professional teams, like the Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, and Bears, to contribute as well. Crawford said, “Helping ensure the safety of the officers with the proper equipment is very important to maintaining safety in our community.” When there is a dangerous situation, the first thought is to call 9-1-1, putting the officers in danger every day. The Blackhawks have created a positive response to help ensure there is safety in the community. The foundation has helped provide 6,100 vests for the police force, and the partnership with the Blackhawks will take them past the finish line and accomplish their goal of 8,000 vests.
