The Green Bay Packers and Head Coach Mike McCarthy make a $200,000 donation to the Green Bay Police Foundation.
The Green Bay Packers and head coach Mike McCarthy announced on September 8, 2016 that they each made a $100,000 donation to the Green Bay Police Foundation. The donations are matching grants. The Green Bay Police Foundation must raise the first $200,000 in order to secure the donations from the coach and team.
The Green Bay Police Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public safety and partnerships in the community. McCarthy said, “I’m excited to support the Green Bay Police Foundation and its work to help all the Green Bay communities build those relationships. It’s important so our children can grow, they can invest, and they can project a healthier and safer community.”
In the locker room, the head coach sets the attitude and tone for the players. Players follow the words and actions of their head coach; similarly, the head coach can set the tone in the community. If he or she is active, it can set an example for those that idolize the team. This will hopefully lead to increased unity between the police force and the community as well as provide much needed funds for the people who protect us. Even though police issues have been in the news recently, the police force protects us and is the first call we make in an emergency. We need to improve relations with this group of professionals nationwide and these actions from leaders of our sports teams are a great first step.
