November Project

How can the November Project use its network to positively impact the community?

The November Project is a free fitness movement born in Boston as a way to stay active during the winter months. The community has spread nationwide and has gained traction amongst thousands of people of all ages to stay active. According to the organization, its members “vary from Olympic medalists, professional athletes, marathoners, triathletes, all the way to complete fitness rookies and couch potatoes.”

The November Project is truly a movement – each member holds another person accountable. Lifelong friendships are formed, stories retold, and memories made. It’s well known that the endurance community is one of the most vibrant and passionate communities that exist. These individuals are passionate about the brands they wear and are proud to support nutrition, technologies and causes that align with their vision. As a result, there is a huge untapped market for members of the November Project to raise money and awareness for causes in their local markets.

For example, many November Project members run simply to stay in shape during the winter. These runners could pledge to raise money for a cause for every mile they run during the holiday season. Each city could choose one cause and there could be a competition across the country to raise the most money (and in return, run the most miles). In addition, if a member is training for a race, he or she can use this as an opportunity to raise awareness for a cause.  The social media community for runners is a powerful and vibrant one that can amplify this message. The November Project could choose a different charitable organization for each month of the year and use its collective power as a community to make a positive impact both locally and nationally. Through a combined effort in each city, November Project members will be able to not only stay in shape, but also effect change across the country.
